Upgrade DEP to Apple Business Manager
After December 1, 2019, Apple DEP and Apple VPP are set to merge in the Apple Business Manager. This change comes as a relief for company IT teams managing Apple devices at large scale, since now everything for Apple management will be available under the Apple Business Manager. Apple Business Manager will be the one-stop-shop for purchasing content, apps & provisioning Apple devices.
If you haven’t already done so, you need to upgrade your organization’s DEP account to Apple Business Manager. You can use your DEP login credentials on Apple Business Manager to get started with your account.
There will be no change reflected on the existing managed Apple Devices. You will continue to have your Accounts, account credentials, MDM servers and devices managed with them, server token,s device orders and other purchased items associated with your account.
Changes Occured While Upgrading DEP to Apple Business Manager
Please note the following changes that will be reflected once you upgrade from Apple DEP to Apple Business Manager:
1. The Program Agent is called Administrator.
2. The Administrators are called managers.
3. The VPP accounts used to buy licenses of apps and books from the Volume Purchase Program are now Content Managers.
4. They can continue to purchase and publish apps and books on managed devices.
5. The accounts used to manage the MDM servers become device managers
